Band / Dual band / Tri band / Quad band O2 operate our network on the standard GSM900 and GSM1800 frequencies. These frequencies are also called Bands. These standards are used all over the world in the many countries. If you want to use your phone in Canada or the USA make sure it is a Tri-band phone. Quad band phones will work anywhere in the World.
Bluetooth A wireless communication capability, which works over a range of up to 10m. Bluetooth enables compatible devices including Mobiles, PDA's and Laptops to transfer data.
Bookmarks This function allows users to register their favourite homepage address. This enables uses to gain access to these pages in one click rather than navigating through the genre's and menus.
Browsing The process of navigating around the i-mode portal and viewing content. i-mode browsing is charged at £3 per mega byte (MB). A MB is the total weight/size of pages that can be viewed for £3. On average 70 to 100 i-mode pages can be viewed for 1 MB, however this depends on the graphics on each page.

Categories / genres Categories and genres are groupings of content sites within i-mode. Examples of categories and genre's include news, sport, shopping and banking.
Colour screen The number of colours your phone has in it will be reflected in the quality of the image that you can see when using O2 Active or Media Messaging. More colours give you a better experience. Typically phones have either 4,000 or 65,000 colours. Some of the original colour screen phones have only 256 colours. If a screen has no colour at all then it will be greyscale.
Compatible phone Any GSM phone that is not locked to another UK mobile phone network will work with an O2 (UK) Limited SIM Card. If your phone is locked or if you are not sure, call your current network service provider and they will be able to unlock it. Once unlocked, the phone will work with an O2 (UK) Limited SIM Card.
Contract / Pay monthly Mobile service where you agree to pay a monthly fee to the network operator. This type of contract usually means you receive a set number of minutes and texts as part of the monthly fee.

Data Card A Data Card plugs into your Laptop PC via the PCMCIA slot and connects you via the mobile network to the Internet. You can then do pretty much everything you'd do at your desk. A Data Card can use GPRS technology (General Packet Radio Service) and also 3G technology. You only pay for data you send and receive.
Data usage This is the about of data used in browsing and downloading content. This is measured in MB's is equivalent to 1,024,000 bytes. Kb's is equivalent to 1,024 bytes. One letter is equivalent to 1 bit and 1 pictograph is equivalent to 2 bytes.
Discount country Discount Country allows you to specify a country to receive discounted call rates. Any calls made to your nominated country from your mobile phone will be charged at a lower than usual rate.
Download The process of moving an item stored on the portal (Internet) to your handset. Downloads include text, pictures, music, sound and video clips. Downloads are charged at £3 per mega byte (MB)
